SPOTTED DICK
A steamed suet pudding made with dried fruit (raisins or currants), which is usually served with custard. It is a traditional English dish.
Its name was probably derived from "Spotted Pudding", where "Pudding" was replaced with "Puddick" and later to "Dick." Some histories call it Spotted Dog, in association with Dalmations, which was a very popular breed in England in the 18th century. Perhaps the most unusual name for this dessert is Spotted Richard. In 2002, the BBC reported on an odd incident at a Gloucestershire Hospital. Three years prior, Spotted Dick, though a favorite of patients, was deemed too racy a name and the fear was that people would be too embarrassed to request it.
