Any of a family (Mugilidae) of chiefly marine bony fishes with an elongate rather stout body. This category includes red mullet, white mullet, and the fattier black mullet = striped mullet. Red mullet, or goatfish is any of a family (Mullidae) of medium-sized often brightly colored bony fishes having two long barbels under the chin, and elongate body, and two widely separated dorsal fins.
